Big blow for Italy | Cannovaro ruled out of Euro 08

Italy's Inspirational captain Fabio cannavaro has been ruled out of the entire Euro 2008 tournament Defender Alessandro Gamberini has replaced him. Cannavaro teared a knee ligament while practising with Giorgio Chiellini in Italy's first training session in Austria.

Cannavaro underwent an MRI scan, after which the doctor Franz Maria Kainberger, who was interviewed by Ansa, said the centre-back had suffered a double sprain of his ankle and that an operation might be needed.
