Is Lionel Messi a better footballer than Cristiano Ronaldo?

These two have many things in common, their desire to score goals, their glitz and glamor and everything. This may sound a bit odd to many people. Although I’m a big follower of Manchester United and Ronaldo, my mind can’t agree. Well Ronaldo has scored some marvelous goals. Some even the greats can’t even imagine of. But his temperament, his capability to rise to the occasion is not as good as Messi’s. The Messi’s purity of football cannot be compared to anyone’s. Ronaldo has scored some great goals but his temperament and ability to rise to the occasion is not as good as Messi’s. Yes for a winger to score 42 goals in one season is just marvelous.

You may have seen Maradona score the goal of the century after receiving the ball in England’s half he dribbled pass 8 English players and a goal keeper all by himself to score that Marvelous goal. And today you see Football there are some excellent dribblers but you never see a dribble like what Maradona did. The Reason is the commitment, the desire to score goals. Messi never lacks that if he receives the ball he feels that its his duty to score the goal. Very rare it is to find Messi losing the ball inside the Penalty box. He just scores some goals or assists them to his Team mates.

Ronaldo on the other hand is an attacking footballer. He too has a burning desire to score goals but all by himself. Although his team play is much improved now, his capability to help his team rise is a bit low. His contribution from the wings is fairly low than his goal scoring abilities.

Alexander Hleb a Barcelona Team mate of Lionel Messi has said that he has never seen anyone like Messi. Messi’s sprint speed is by far the best among all players who have played, which are playing and even who are going to play. His control of ball in tight places and absolutely accurate passes make him one of the all time best.

Everyone is comparing Messi to the great Maradona. The over hype has led to the fall of many footballers but not Messi. He is continuing to score goals at the top level. Messi’s new Argentina coach Maradona himself applauded himself by saying “Messi has got a long way to go he is just 20. He at least has an 10 years more. “May be he can become somewhat like me”

European Footballer of the Year award went to Ronaldo and not Messi. As I said this article has nothing to do with the Ballon d’or. 2007-2008 season Ronaldo was way better than Messi. But will he retain the Ballon d’or next year it’s a clear doubt. All players are giving thumps-up to Messi lifting that gorgeous trophy next year. What ever be what ever but the beautiful game of Football is getting beautiful but some great players like Ronaldo and Messi.
